The scriptures remind us that âgodliness with contentment is great gainâ (1 Timothy 6:6). In a world full of comparison, conflicts, and constant noise, this is more than just good adviceâitâs a lifeline đ
Contentment is not complacency, and itâs not apathy, itâs not about having less ambition, nor does it mean settling for mediocrity. True contentment comes when our hearts are anchored in God, when our worth is not measured by what we own, how we look, what we accomplish or what others think, but by who we are as beloved children of God.
When we practice godliness with contentment, we rise above the endless cycle of comparison. Instead of looking outward at what others have, do, or not do, we look upward and inwardâupward to Godâs love, and inward to the peace He has already placed within us.
The Savior taught, âPeace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto youâ let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27). That peace is not found in competition or possession, but in CONNECTIONâwith God, with our divine nature, and with others in love. âžď¸
When we can be content in Christ, when we know who we are as a child of God, when we know in the God that we know and trust. We find that thereâs true peace and happiness. We stop relying on competition and instead we increase in our compassion.
We stop judging and instead we start giving more kindness, compassion and love. Our energy stops being âtriggeredâ by comparison and instead we focus on what God has given us and what we can do for Him with what we have. Christâs invitation is to seek first the kingdom of God, and let all other things fall into their proper place.
So, how can we live this?
⢠We can shift our focus: Each day, instead of measuring what we lack, make time to breathe and count what you already have through Godâs grace.
⢠Live simply: The Prophet Alma taught that we should âplant the wordâ of God in our hearts and let it grow (Alma 32). A simple, growing faith creates a deeply rooted connection to our Father in Heaven. The creator and true giver of all that we have. đą
⢠Practice gratitude: Gratitude transforms what we have into enough, and enough into abundance. 𤊠Gratitude is proven to reduce anxiety, stress and to increase happiness. Donât we all need a little more daily gratitude? đ§Ą
⢠Seek eternal perspective: As Paul reminded, âWe brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing outâ (1 Timothy 6:7).
The goal is this: to live so filled with Godâs light that we are no longer moved by the shifting winds of the world. To know that whatever we have here is all âborrowedâ and temporary. What we end up taking with us is our soul! We truly take nothing with us. Thatâs why itâs so important to seek to build our Heavenly Mansion. To gain Heavenly treasures and some of the best ways we can reach that is by letting go of our pride, by humbling ourselves, by being grateful and happy with our blessings, trusting God and going out and serving others.
So, letâs work on not allowing the world to persuade us to complain and to be âunhappyâuntil we get or do this or that….We have to stop believing the lies of the enemy who wants to draw us away from God! from truly strengthening our souls (which is the only thing that we can actually take with us) Instead, our focus should be on making it a point that we strive to be anchored in Christ.
Living in Godly contentment. Which does not make us passive, but if anything it EMPOWERS US. It gives us strength to serve, to love, to uplift, and to walk through life with joy no matter the circumstances.
As the picture in this message shows that sunflower đź I want to remind you that we are each our own type flower đş đ¸đˇđť created differently in Gods image. We can choose to be the best type of âflowerâ that we are. To influence in our sphere, to brighten others lives and most importantly to be grateful for the type of flower and beauty that we each get to share. God wants us to GROW WHERE WE ARE PLANTED. đ𼚠đˇTo live in gratitude daily for our blessings. To see all of the good that we have. To count our blessings and from there, be able to lift and help others as well.
So today, Choose godliness. Choose Contentment in the power that Christ provided. Choose to rise above comparison and conflict, and instead walk in peace. For when our hearts rest in God, we find not only contentmentâbut true and lasting joy.
Tonight in class, we will have a beautiful meditation, focused on contentment and gratitude. Hereâs a little mindfulness exercise to help you.
Sit in silence, take a few deep breaths.
Move your attention gently through your life:
⢠Your breath, your body, your shelter, your loved ones, your faith.
⢠For each, pause and whisper: âThank You, Lord.â This is our goal for the week. To practice it daily if we can. đĽ°đđź
This shifts the mind from whatâs missing to whatâs already given. This is a blessing to those of us who can practice it today.
Love you all and hope that you can make it to class tonight to release stress and do something amazing for your body, mind and spirit. Hope to see you there.
Love,
