Finding Stillness šŸ’–

We live in a world buzzing with constant noise—notifications, scrolling feeds, 24/7 news, and never-ending entertainment. It’s easier than ever to fill every quiet moment with something that feels productive, entertaining, or comforting. But in the midst of that noise, we risk losing something far more valuable: our connection to heaven.

Distraction is the Enemy of Revelation. When we allow the outside world to constantly come in and disrupt our peace, we make it harder for us to receive the inspiration and the revelation that we need.

Elder Richard G. Scott once said, ā€œThe inspiring influence of the Holy Spirit can be overcome or diluted by strong emotions, such as anger, hate, passion, fear, or pride. Similarly, spiritual promptings can be missed if we’re too busy, overwhelmed, or distracted.ā€

The truth is, many of us are missing personal revelation—not because God has stopped speaking, but because we’re too distracted and we’ve stopped listening. šŸ™ The Lord speaks in a still, small voice. But how can we hear that voice when our minds are constantly pulled in a hundred different directions?

As I’ve thought about distractions this week. I’ve realized that my phone is my biggest source of distraction. It steals time away from the people that are around me. It steals time away from my goals, from being able to serve, listen and help someone. I’ve also noticed that phones have become our ā€œescapeā€ when we don’t want to feel an emotion. So, I’m asking myself today. ā€œHow do I want my relationship to be with my phone? Do I want IT to be the master of me? Or do I want to make sure that I CONTROL, MASTER AND SET LIMITS with this device? šŸ’ŖšŸ¼

Phones aren’t evil—But They Can Be Addictive. Our phones are incredible tools. They connect us, teach us, and help us serve. But like any tool, they can be misused. When we spend hours on social media comparing our lives to others, when we check notifications during scripture study or prayer, when we default to entertainment instead of introspection—something sacred is being traded for something superficial.

President Russell M. Nelson warned us: ā€œThe adversary is clever. For millennia he has been making good look evil and evil look good. His messages tend to be loud, bold, and boastful. However, messages from our Heavenly Father are strikingly different. He communicates simply, quietly, and with such stunning plainness that we cannot misunderstand Him.ā€

We cannot afford to be spiritually numb. Our time on earth is too short and our potential too grand to waste on constant digital noise.

How to Fight Distraction and Reclaim Clarity?

So how do we break free? How do we hear the voice of the Lord more clearly and align ourselves with our divine potential?

Here are a few small but powerful steps:

1. Begin with Intentional Stillness

Create space in your day for silence. Mornings or evenings are perfect times to set aside even five minutes to pray, listen, and be still. This stillness invites the Spirit and prepares your heart to receive divine impressions.

2. Practice ā€œSacred Breathingā€

Try a simple breathing exercise before prayer or scripture study: inhale deeply for four counts, hold for four, and exhale for four. Repeat a few times while focusing on a phrase like ā€œBe still and know that I am God.ā€ This grounds your spirit and quiets your thoughts so the Lord’s voice can come through.

3. Fast from Distraction

Just as we fast from food to refocus spiritually, we can fast from digital distractions. Try taking a break from social media, YouTube, or streaming apps once a week. Use that time to study the scriptures, write in your journal, or simply be with your thoughts and with God.

3. Guard Your Sacred Time

Prioritize scripture study, prayer, temple worship, and Sabbath observance with your whole heart. Put the phone in another room. Let God know He has your full attention. He always notices.

4. Strengthen Your Willpower Through Covenants

Covenants or promises to God are powerful spiritual anchors. When we remember who we are and the promises we’ve made, we find the strength to act instead of being acted upon. Our willpower grows stronger when we act deliberately to keep our covenants—especially in a distracted world.

5. Ask God to Help You See Clearly

If you’re overwhelmed, confused, or discouraged, ask for help. Pray for clarity. The Lord will help you discern between what is good, what is better, and what is best. His wisdom cuts through confusion.

You Are Meant for More

God has great things in store for you. He placed you here for a reason and wants to guide you. Make time to receive those promptings, and the revelation that you need for your life. He will help you in your relationships, with the way you spend your time and He will bring miracles into your life. It juts requires your attention, stillness, intention, and time with the Lord.

Let’s remind ourselves that we were never meant to live distracted. We were meant to live directed—by our Father in Heaven, Our loving Savior Jesus Christ and by the Holy Ghost.

So, today, choose to unplug a little more so you can connect a lot more—be ready to listen to the little impressions that come to your heart. To that still small voice and then you will know what to do next. Allow yourself the opportunity to connect with God, with yourself, and with what truly matters. You’ll be amazed at what opens up when you make space to hear His voice.

Hope that you can make it to class tonight to release stress, disconnect from the distractions and connect to your body, mind and spirit.

Love,

Lili 🌸
